BACKGROUND

Rejuvenating one of London’s historic high streets, this scheme promised to generate unprecedented levels of activity with its engaging ground plane layout. Restoring Cheapside to its former glory, it forms a welcoming threshold along the axis of the Royal Exchange and St Paul’s that is accessible from all directions. The permeability of this public meeting place mirrors the intricate alleyways around St Mary le Bow, creating a secular icon in the shadow of the city’s most famous religious landmark. Its central covered courtyard offers office workers an enviable amenity, complete with a generous array of shops, cafés, and seating within yards of its secure office vestibules.
